out and about

A view of the world from the eyes of a human being...

Reporting in from the 2006 Iditarod in Anchorage, Alaska, where our very own reporter calls home, we welcome Robin Rosay.

Idit - day 4

Hi There!

We're at that part of the race where things start to get interesting. The front runner made it to the halfway point shortly after midnight. He'll be taking his mandatory 24 hour rest at that checkpoint. The guy who's been a very close second started his mandatory 24 at an earlier checkpoint. So, at least for a little while, first place will be up for grabs again. Then it will be interesting to see who's teams can keep up the fast paces they've been going. A lot of things can happen between now and the wee hours on Tuesday the 14th, the day I'm guessing we'll have a winner.

K-9 Fairies who were out raising breast cancer awareness

Today's first photo is a group of fans called the K-9 Fairies who were out raising breast cancer awareness.

Robert Sorlie of Norway

The second photo is two-time champ Robert Sorlie of Norway. He only runs on odd numbered years. He was rookie of the year in his first ever Iditarod. The second and third times he ran it he won them both. This year he's assisting his nephew, Bjornar Andersen.

Lori Townsend

The third photo is another shot of Lori Townsend, who you saw in the first day's photos. She dropped out of the race a day or two ago after falling off the sled numerous times and breaking a rib. Ouch!

More tomorrow. Robin

Sledding anyone?
