A view of the world from the eyes of a
human being...
Reporting in from the 2008 Iditarod in Anchorage, Alaska, where our
very own reporter calls home, we welcome Robin Rosay.
Iditarod Update #19 - Final Installment
The biggest part of the race may be over. Those that wanted to win.
Those that wanted to place in the top five
or ten. Those that wanted to place in the top 25. Those that wanted to
be Rookie of the Year. This next week the race is for the other half
of the entrants. Those that just wanted to do better than they did last
year. Those that just want to make it to Nome. Some only plan on doing
this once. It's a dream they've always had. A dog mushers dream
vacation. They'll quietly come in, mostly unnoticed now. They should
be admired just the same, because, after all, they did travel over 1000
miles standing on the back of a dog sled. Amazing.
This is also the part of the race where it makes sense for me to part
ways with you. I've had my fun. Shared the emotion and anxiety and
excitement of being a fan. This was my eighth Iditarod, and I have to
say, it was probably the wildest ride yet. I hope you enjoyed it as
much I did. In closing, I'll leave you with a little more Alaska to
enjoy for just a little while longer.
Until next year . . . live life to the fullest.

About 30 miles south of Anchorage it is common to see Dall sheep on the
cliffs along the highway. Sometimes they're too high up to photograph,
and sometimes all you have to do is point and shoot.
I'm a big aurora borealis fan, especially when all I have to do is open
the living room window and start shooting.
This was taken in the early morning hours one April
The early morning hours seem to be a jackpot time for activity here in
Alaska. This particular morning I heard some noise out the front door.
I peeked outside and found this calf eating dead, dried flowers out of a
hanging flower pouch that was on the front porch.
I was on a bike ride last summer when I noticed some tourists with a
camera looking up. Sure enough, there was this eagle standing on one of
the large utility poles. It let us watch it for a while, then decided
enough was enough and it was gone.
Sledding anyone?
