A view of the world from the eyes of a
human being...
Reporting in from the 2008 Iditarod in Anchorage, Alaska, where our
very own reporter calls home, we welcome Robin Rosay.
Hi Nancy,
The ceremonial start of the Iditarod is on Saturday. I am so hyped ! !
! ! I hope to be sending a couple pre-race emails with photos of the
10-day Fur Rendezvous festival that the Iditarod start wraps up.
New this year on the Iditarod web site (free this year) is going to be a
global tracking system that was put on (I think) twenty of the top
racer's sleds. Obsessed folks like me will be able to track the mushers
along the way. Should add some real excitement to the next two weeks.
I have not settled on one person to root for yet, but I am leaning
towards Lance Mackey, who a week or so ago won his fourth straight Yukon
Quest race - another 1000 miler. Last year he won the Quest, then won
the Iditarod with nine of the dogs that had just been in the Quest. His
team is really hot. Another person to watch is a guy named Ken
Anderson. He's Lance's neighbor in Fairbanks. He's been learning a lot
from Lance. So much so, in fact, that he came in second in his rookie
Quest race this year and had Lance looking over his shoulder for the
last 100 miles of that race.
More later,
Robin
Sledding anyone?
