Adventures in Sledding, Skijoring, Agility, Flyball, Frisbee and much much more -- let's read what Piper, the busy Border Collie, has been up to these days:

Dear Nancy,

It's been quite a while since I've written.  I've been very busy!

In May we went to an agility trial in St. Lazare and I earned my Advanced Agility Dog Canada (AADC) title and also competed in my very first Frisbee competition.  The competition in the distance category was very stiff (there was this amazingly agile and very good looking Old English Sheepdog who I got to compete against), but I came out with a second place.  Not bad considering I hate catching hard frisbees!

We decided to take the rest of the summer off from agility trials to concentrate on our training.  We did however get a lot of flyball tournaments in.  We drove all over, from Sarnia to Northern Michigan to Southern New Hampshire.  I managed to earn myself the titles of Flyball Master (FM) and Flyball Master Excellent (FMX).  The Afterburners also managed to field several Division One teams (something we'd never done before) and even managed to place several times.  We also achieved our fastest ever time of 17.8s at a tournament in Thornton, Ontario.  The team was made up of 3 BC's (REM, Blur & me) and our feisty Sheltie mix (Nellie).

I got to compete in the Capital Classic Horse & Dog Relay again this summer and managed to get teamed up with another fast horse and defend my relay title.  I got to see myself on TSN in November.  Mom doesn't like watching--she says we look too out of control.

Mom also took me to watch & do agility demos at the National Sheepdog Championships here in Ottawa.  Those sheep dogs are truly amazing!  I don't know what they see in those sheep though.

In the Fall, we resumed our agility trailing and managed to get 5 qualifying runs in our first Masters trial.  In the next trial we earned our Master Agility Dog Canada (MADC) & Master Snooker Dog (MSDC).  We would be very close to our Agility Trial Champion title if only we knew how to gamble...

Afterburners Flyball Team

This winter we are training to enter some sledding races.  It's great exercise and will hopefully keep us in shape for when the new agility & flyball seasons roll around.
