23rd and 24th, 2002.
Hi Nancy,
On the weekend I got to go to
a flyball tournament in Richmond Hill called SharkFebst. It's been
so long since mom's taken me to a flyball tournament, something about
flyball being a 'summer sport'. Anyway, we loaded up the truck with
5 border collies and an Affenpincher and headed off. This year at
SharkFebst there were 94 teams entered and 5 of them were Afterburners
teams. We had Stealth in division 4, Falcons in division 8, Tiger
Sharks in division 9, and our two multi breed teams, Tom Cats & Avro
Arrows, in multi division 4.
A multi breed team must
consist of at least 4 different breeds, with mixes being considered 1
breed. A dog can run on a multi & a regular team at any given
tournament but the same dog cannot run on two regular or two multi breed
teams.
I ran on the Stealth team with
Rem, Blur and our height dog Gage. We also had Scotty the
Affenpincher as our back-up height dog. We ran really well and
managed to bring home a big first place ribbon and set an Afterburners
record of 19.47 sec. Our little Scotty finally managed to get his
Flyball Dog (FD) title--it's taken him numerous tournaments, but he
finally did it. He's now retiring from flyball and concentrating on
agility. Our Tiger Sharks team raced really well and easily claimed
1st place in their division too. My other team, the Avro Arrows,
made up of Cooper, the English Springer Spaniel, Zonker, the yellow lab
and Gage, the Lasa-Poo, did okay and managed to finish in 4th out of 8
teams.
So all in all it was a fun
weekend. Mom says I get to go to Michigan to play some more flyball
soon. I can't wait!
Ruff!
Piper
