Adventures in Sledding, Skijoring and Flyball with Piper:
Dear Nancy,
It seems so long ago that I wrote you about my sledding & skijoring adventures. I've
been so busy with summertime activities lately that I barely remember snow.
Mom & I have been very busy. We started the season out with an agility demo at the
Perth Festival of Maples. The All Dog Sports Club does an annual show and all the rookie
dogs & handlers get to show what they've been practicing all winter long. Last week we
did a couple of demos with the Ottawa Valley Border Collie Club at the Experimental Farm
in Ottawa. The demos were geared towards showing school kids what border collies can do
besides herd sheep. I got to show off some of my frisbee, agility & flyball skills.
The past two weekends were spent at flyball tournaments. Two weeks ago we went to a
tournament in a town called Thornton--it's just South of Barrie. Our team wasn't very
successful... We submitted a placement time that was too slow and we just kept running too
fast and "breaking out" so we were disqualified from the tournament. On a good
note though, I earned my FDCh title (Flyball Dog Champion). The next level is Flyball
Master (FM), but I don't think I'll be earning that any time soon--maybe by the end of
next year I'll be a flyball master.
Last weekend
was spent in beautiful Vermont. We brought 2 Afterburner teams to the New England Trail
Blazers tournament and both were very successful. Afterburners Stage 1 (my team) placed
2nd in Division 2. The 1st place team only beat us by 0.02s! Afterburners Stage 2 also
placed 2nd in their division and once again it was a very minor difference between 1st and
2nd place.

Vermont Teams
Bottom row (left to right): Sands & Gage, Ty & Idgie, Marian
& Keisha, Lisa & Terry
2nd row: Kolin & baby Kate, Daryl, Joy
3rd row: Tiffany, Dave
Back row: Christine & Koltrane, Pam & Blur
In between demos we've been going to a lot of agility classes in preparation for my grand
agility trial debut (which will hopefully happen before the end of the summer) and I've
been doing a little bit of bike-joring to keep in shape for when the snow comes back and I
can go skijoring & sledding again. (Bike-joring is where mom hooks me up to her bike
with a bungee line and I pull her).

Tiffany and Piper
Gotta run! Talk
to you again soon!
~Piper
