A view of the world from the eyes of an old english sheepdog...

Reporting in from recent Disc Dog Day Trial and numerous other events around the area we welcome "Millie".

Introduction:

Name: Millie: a.k.a. Millicent, Millie the Pooh, Mill-Mill, Millie -- the Troll (for those bad hair days)
Official Handle: Rollingview's Ribbon in the Sky
Breed: Old English Sheepdog
Date of Birth: Not telling because I'm a woman -- prim and proper!
Favorite toys: Frisbee. Frisbee. Frisbee. Soft toys such as: my duck and bunny rabbit to name but a few of my many stuffed toys. Anything that I can carry around that's soft.
Favorite activities: Playing Frisbee, going to the dog park and playing Frisbee & riding in the car.
Activities that her parents make her do: Obedience, agility, skijoring & dog sledding (the last two are new ones to me!).
Siblings: Spenser (my Uncle), Walter (Oh good grief, my younger Black Standard Poodle of a brother!), Cassie (by far, my oldest sister who is a Bichon Frise) and a slew of cats.
Dislikes: Maybe my younger brother, Walter?! Having trouble warming up to him unless he has my Frisbee or food!

Adventures in
Obedience, Agility, Frisbee and much much more with Millie reporting in from:
Guides Canins - St. Lazare, QC - Disc Dog CDDA Sanctioned Trial/Agility AAC Sanctioned Trial - May 18th and 19th, 2002.

Hi there,
Millie here!

Mom took me into a really neat doggy competition on Saturday, May 18th, 2002 in St. Lazare, QC -- behind a really big international horse show. (Mom said that not to long ago she used to ride in that BIG horse show and she also rode and trained horses there!)

While the doggy agility competition was going on, Mom introduced me to REM (Joy's his Mom from the Afterburners Flyball in Ottawa), Blur (Pam's his Mom), and Piper and Rio's (Tiffany's their Mom) who came all the way from Ottawa to be in the agility classes and the long distance Frisbee contest. (I passed on Agility as I'm into obedience right now -- or at least I was when this event was on. Now I'm in both Obedience and Agility!)

Boy, was it ever a windy day. Freezing beyond belief but Mom kept me warm by working all sorts of different heeling maneuvers and other fun obedience exercises before our class began.

Okay, I can't hold it in any longer 'coz I'm so excited!! I have to tell you what class I was entered in -- Frisbee! Yes, that's right! I was entered in the Canadian Frisbee Contest put on by the Canadian Disc Dog Association. Mom entered me in it as she knows how much I adore my Frisbee. I play Frisbee even in my sleep -- that's how much I enjoy it! Anyway, I passed the Proficiency Flyball Test with flying colours (no pun intended)! The official judge had never seen an OES catch a Frisbee as well as me before and urged us to continue. So onward and upward, to the "long distance" Frisbee catching competition.

We had to wait until the very last agility class was over before we got to do the "long distance" Frisbee catching. The Frisbee class was made up of a sea of Border Collies (even the "Official Canadian Frisbee" has a Border Collie on it, they are that well known in the catching dept!), along with a couple of Labs, Belgium Sheepdogs, Aussies and MOI.

Gee, I thought that moment would never come as it was so darn cold and WINDY! We had to catch the long distance throws 4 times within a minute to qualify for so-called Frisbee "title" and Mom was really pumping that Frisbee out to me! I caught 3 in a row with all four feet off of the ground and in the AIR! On the fourth one, the wind took it on it's merry way. You should have heard the crowd moan in disbelief when that happened as I would have qualified for a Frisbee leg.  Not ONE single dog qualified for their Frisbee title 'coz of the wind! (By the way, did I mention it was windy?)

We didn't walk away empty handed as we got a Certificate saying we had passed the Retriever Proficiency Test and an Official Canadian Frisbee.

We had so much fun -- just Mom and me. Which counts the most!

Well, I had to share my exciting moment with you. Might not have been in an obedience ring this time around, but this was loads of fun!

Uh oh, Mom's coming!
Gotta go,
Millie
